Interface between components
DfMA Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work, Mainstreaming Design for Manufacture and Assembly in Construction, 2nd Edition, published by the RIBA in 2021, defines an interface as: ‘The point at which two or more components, sub-assemblies or systems connect or interact. Interface characteristics may be physical or performance-related, and provide the necessary functions of the interface. Interfaces are the focus of standardisation to allow interoperability, thus opening the market up to competition from different manufacturers.’
